Most of you probably have been hearing a lot these days about Felix Baumgartner. For those of you who haven’t, he is an Austrian skydiver who, less than a week ago (14.10.2012), set the world record for skydiving at just over 39 kilometers height. He also set the fastest speed record of 1,342 km/h making him the first human to break the sound barrier outside of a vehicle. However, the longest free fall record still belongs to Joseph Kittinger who jumped himself from ~23 km in 1960.
You can see some impressive jumps and also Kittinger’s jump in this Top Ten Video I saw on YouTube some time ago. (Notice how Red Bull casually appears in most of the videos )
Here is a Video of Felix Baumgartner’s jump. There is no official statement but Red Bull definitely spent a lot of money in sponsorships to show that “Red Bull Gives You Wings.”
(His landing is just genius… After jumping from THAT height and spinning for a while his landing is.. just simple and awesome.)
Long before the whole world knew who Felix is, he was doing a lot of amazing jumps throughout the world. In 1999 he claimed the world record for the highest parachute jump from a building (Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur). He also set a record when he jumped from the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro and was the first to skydive across the English Channel in a fiber wingsuit. You can see some of his amazing jumps in this video:
Hope you enjoyed it!
