Last week I enjoyed a wonderful couple of days in the mountains. First we went to Izvoarele which is a commune in Prahova County and ended up in Cheia (which is a mountain resort also located in Prahova county in the Teleajen Valley and it is surrounded by Ciucas and Zaganu Mountains). Since Cheia is an hour away from Brasov, we decided to drive there and walk around for a few hours. It was a great day and more than that, it was a great drive since there was almost no one on the road.
On this map you can see the exact location of the places I mentioned:
Here are some pictures from our trip:
The road leading to a monastery…
This is the Cheia Monastery for monks dedicated to the Holy Trinity. It was first attested in 1770 and later destroyed by the Ottomans and also ravaged by fire. The current church was built of stone between 1835 and 1839.
The monastery is surrounded by a beautiful garden and a few of these small houses, which are also meant to house tourists looking for a place to spend the night.
This is the interior of the monastery which is still being renovated today.
This is the Cheia Satellite Communication Center (1976) and it is the largest one in Central and South-eastern Europe.
