NYE in Mallorca

Mallorca is one of Spain’s Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea and known for its beaches, mountains and Roman & Moorish remains. Its beautiful capital is called Palma. There you will find a lovely old city center as well as the Moorish Almudaina royal palace and the 13th century Cathedral also referred to as “La Seu”.

We spent the winter holidays there including New Years Eve and enjoyed a sunny week with around 18 degrees C during the day (hurts just to type this, as there are -7 in Vienna now). Our flat was in Palma but we rented a car to be able to visit the whole island.

Our apartment was in the 2nd floor of the L’Ospite building in the middle. It was really nice and right in the middle of the city.

The pelican in the water looks like the Chief keeping all other birds in line. :)

The glory of Palma is this magnificent Gothic Cathedral with sandstone walls. You have to see it both during the day and during the night especially for the water reflection.

Also has some touches from Gaudi who was shortly involved in the project.

It is beautiful inside and out and as soon as you walk in you’ll notice light pouring in through the rose window.

This is where the magic happens. I will remember this as my favorite Christmas decoration – the shiny trees looked amazing. Notice le bf and I taking pictures right under the trees.

You’ll see these kinds of inner courtyards often around the narrow streets of Palma.

This was my favorite place in Mallorca and it’s called Cap de Formentor. The scenery is unique with cliffs as tall as 400 metres jut into the sea, rock formations and pine trees seemingly growing out of rocks. The drive is also famously scary but now all the roads are new and in perfect condition. A local legend has it that the priest and the local bus driver arrived at the Pearly Gates and only the driver was admitted to heaven. Why? He had led more people to pray. :)

Alcudia, Mallorca – was super quiet in winter but has some amazing beaches.

img_8923

Only person taking a bath at 16 degrees C. Besides him and us, the entire beach was empty.

Last but not least, a hot tip if you visit Soller. Have a zesty fruit from an orange tree. <3
